Delphi

At Delphi and Olympia, we visited the archeological museums and then went out to see the ruins of each. This was helpful because the museum created a picture of the site in my head before I went to actually see it. In the Delphi museum, there was a very famous statue of the Charioteer of Delphi cast in Bronze.

Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle and it was a major site for the worship of the god Apollo, where there is a Temple erected. Atop the Delphi ruins is the studieum of the Delphic Santuary, where Greek athletes competed in the Pythian Games. Also at Delphi are a large number of treasuries. These were built by the various city-states thanking the oracle for their victories. The Athenian Treasury was restored and first erected to recognize the Athenian victory at the Battle of Marathon.
