Olympia

Olympia was the site of the Ancient Olympic Games, held every “Olympiad”, or four years. The ruins at Olympia were a lot flatter than other sites we had been to, and the gymnasium was very long and straight. The Ancient games were unlike what we know as modern Olympics, at first the only event was a running race. We all walked down to the 100 meter dash point, though it was too hot for me to run!

One of the most important parts of the ruins that is now housed in the museum is the Temple of Zeus which housed a giant statue of Zeus. Each marble pediment on the outside of the structure depicted scenes which are reconstructed in the museum.
