Mystras
Mystras lies right above the town of Sparta. The Palace ruins at Mystras were ruled during the Byzantine empire. We visited two churches at Mystras that we were able to take photographs of, and I’m very glad to have photos of the wall paintings and alter. The monastery higher on the hill at Mystras was called Monastery of Pantanassa, and Nuns still reside in the quarters here. Unlike other experiences with Nuns of Monks that we had, one Nun was very willing to show us around and lead us into her maid room to see embroidered pieces she was selling and offer us a traditional gummy fruit candy. My favorite photos from Mystras are with the Nun quietly in the background watching the monastery.
